As we all know that all the banking rules and all the activities related to banking is managed and developed by the apex bank of India i.e. Reserve Bank Of India. Scheduled Banks are the banks that have been mentioned in the 2nd schedule of the Reserve Bank of India (BRI) Act 1934. The banks are-
- Private Sector Banks
- Public Sector Banks
- Foreign Banks
- Private Sector Banks- These are the banks where the private individuals or the corporations hold more than 51 percent of stake. ICICI Bank, IDBI Bank, IDFC First Bank, Yes Bank are some Private Sector Banks- These are the banks where the private individuals or the corporations hold the majority that is more than 51 percent of stake. ICICI Bank, IDBI Bank, IDFC First Bank, Yes Bank are some of the examples of Private banks.
- Public Sector Banks- These are the banks where the government holds more than 51 percent of stake. State Bank of India (SBI), BOB, Union Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra are some of the examples of Public Sector banks.
- Foreign Banks- The banks having the Head office outside India is deemed to the foreign bank. American Express, Standard Chartered Bank Citi Bank are the example of Foreign banks.

Important Note: On 30 August, in the year 2019 total of Ten (10) Public Sector Banks (PSB) were merged with Four (04) big Public Sector Banks. After the Merger, the total number of PSB has been reduced, and now there are total Twelve (12) PSB, including State Bank of India (SBI), Bank of Baroda, Indian Overseas Bank, and Bank of Maharashtra. On the other hand, now there are total Twenty-Two (22) Private sector Banks in India, including ICICI Bank, IDBI Bank, IDFC First Bank, Yes Bank.
